Barbara Slater has been an artist most of her life, starting as a young child as many of us do in grade school. She has continued to sketch and paint ever since she got excited about her first box of color crayons and a blank sheet of paper.

She chose public school teaching as a profession but her love of painting led her to a very active and successful free-lance career in the art world. In her spare time between teaching/ counseling she expressed herself through graphic art production, children's book illustration and oil painting. In her early years as an artist her work was marketed through the Ginn Publishing Company, retail advertising and display and Not-For-Profit illustration. Her oil paintings were shown in galleries in California, Utah and Oregon, private shows and restaurants. Her reputation as a commissioned artist has grown steadily over the past 20 years.

She continues today as a student of the Scottsdale Art School and her work has been shown in the schools annual "Best and Brightest" art show. Her work frequently appears on the magazine "Ranch and Country" and most recently hung in the Oil Painters of America show in Carmel, California. She is recognized in Central Oregon for her paintings of animals and is often commissioned to capture a favorite pet on canvas. She is currently showing in several galleries in Oregon, private and business collections.

She is a member of Oil Painters of America, California Art Club and the High Desert Art League.
